Hypnosis seems to be a crock a lot of the time, but I think that depends on a person’s mind set of what hypnosis can do for them. Over the past 3 months, I have been doing a “Metabolism Booster” 20 minute hypnosis. I think it helps, even if I haven’t shed pounds like crazy! If nothing else, having the session helps me zone out and de-stress (it’s also great for falling asleep before bed). It may seem silly, but maybe it’s easier to do in the comfort of one’s own home rather than in an office where you can spend hundreds of dollars.
I’ve used hypnosis for getting in better shape, even if I haven’t moved. The sessions that I began trying are done by Brenda Kaye. Her session for weight loss, or just getting motivated for exercise, is called “Expand your Mind, Shrink your Body.” Personally, I listen while I sleep and the experience still has an effect, but I think the effect is greater when I listen to it while I am awake and fall into the session.
Here are a few tips I learned in a public, non-recorded session with Brenda –
1) Avoid using the word “lose.”
Why? Because, from our social structure, we see losing as BAD. To remove this, using the words “shed” or “melt” helps. It keeps the mind from trying to hold on to that extra baby fat!
2) Don’t be afraid of relaxing and treating yourself to some “Me time.”
Why? Stress affects how you eat and how the body holds on to certain foods. Take a break, even if it seems like you’re swimming in work.
3) Put skeptical thoughts aside and just go with the flow.
Why? You don’t have to believe in it right away, but if you’re going to try just set any skeptical thoughts aside. They’ll make it very difficult to focus on the session and then the session is pretty useless. (I speak from experience, but once those thoughts are aside, you at least benefit from being less stressed out.) 😀
