Updated! Dragon Age Origins – Circle of Magi Quest – The Fade Walkthrough

I’ve recently edited this walkthrough since it was published in September 2013. I was playing recently and noticed that I was missing some of the fonts! Here are the recent edits:

  • All directions were made clearer, and 2 font locations were moved to the appropriate areas.
  • The Templar’s Nightmare added with font discoveries.
  • A font was added to the Darkspawn Invasion area.
  • A font was added to the Burning Tower Area.
  • The Mages Asunder fonts now have better directions.
  • The Mages Asunder fonts are completely listed and 2 have been added.
  • Niall or the Raw Fade area was made clearer and moved.
  • Ordered the Walkthrough by the areas that should be completed first for the quickest completion for this part of the quest.
  • The total number of fonts that can be found is placed in “Tips.”

Here is a walkthrough for those Dragon Age Origins players who need a head getting through the Fade quest in the Circle. Hopefully, this helps!

The Circle of Magi Quest: The Fade’s Essecnes (Fonts) Walkthrough

By: Naiad-Rose (www.bluerosesandnaiadsongs.wordpress.com)

NOTE!: This walkthrough is only for finding all of the fonts in the Fade during the Mages’ Tower quest and to quickly get you through the quest without running around in circles. There are NO TIPS to beat bosses.

TIPS!

  1. I recommend gaining all of the forms first before looking for fonts. It may be slower, but then you won’t be running everywhere to obtain a missed form.
  2. The Darkspawn Invasion and Burning Tower can be done interchangeably. To save time, do the Burning Tower First to gain the Burning Man Form.
  3. Go to the PARTY MEMBERS LAST! This may not seem like a big deal, but helping party members last will ensure that you’ve gotten all of the fonts.
  4. Don’t collect the forms out of order, you’ll spend more time than you want here if you do that. If you want to finish quickly, just follow the numbers!
  5. ONLY BOSS TIP I WILL GIVE!: On the last boss, use your forms to kill him. The enemies that hurt you the most will have the same effect on the boss when he changes into other forms.
  6. If you think you missed a font, there are a total of 22 fonts in the Fade.

I’m going to tell you the fonts by the areas they are in and in the order that I recommend them being completed in. You DO NOT have to collect the fonts in this order!

  • Your Dream/Start: There is only 1 Font here.
    • Doesn’t it suck that you had to kill Duncan? This is only one Font here, but it will require the SPIRIT FORM. It is the only font at the very beginning, it will be on the right side of the chamber from where you entered when you began your quest in the Fade. You’ll need to use Spirit Form to use it.

  • Dark Invasion: There are 3 fonts here.
  1. One will be behind the “massive door” near the entrance. By “entrance,” I mean before you save the Templar, once you save the Templar you will have to run back to get it. Use the Golem Form to break down the door and reach the font.
  2. There is a mouse hole in the room where the fade pedestal is when you began. Use the Mouse Form. In the next area, it will look somewhat like a “T.”  Go straight and use the mousehole at the end. There will be a font. Then, leave the way you entered and take a right to use another mousehole. This mousehole will shortcut you halfway through the maze to just before the room you found the Templar in.
  3. There will also be a font in the room where you saved the Templar. You’ll need to use Spirit Form to get it and it will be behind a pillar.

  • Burning Tower: There are 5 fonts here. You may have to hunt, and I’m sorry about that, but the Maze Area is tough to give directions in with all the fire.
  1. There is a mouse hole by a pedestal at the beginning room. Use it, and there will be a Font of Cunning in it. You shouldn’t need any other form other than the Mouse to gain this font.
  2. Before using the stairs to enter the Maze area, there is a “massive door” to the left of the stairs, or straight ahead depending on how you entered the room. Break the door down as the Golem Form. It should look like a library, and inside on the right side of the room there will be a font of magic. Leave the room and use the stairs to go to the Maze area.
  3. In the Maze area, go straight ahead from where you entered the first time. Use the Burning Man Form to get through the flames and take the most direct path to the door. You should be able to spot it. It’s a spirit door at the end of the corridor. Use the Spirit Form to enter here. There will be 2 fonts.
  4. The last font in the Burning Tower is at the end. It will be with the demon of the realm, Rhagos, or at the end of the dream. It is a Font of Strength and on the right side of the room when you enter.
  • Mages Asunder: There are 8 Fonts here.
  1. The very first mouse hole, at the beginning, has a Font of Strength in it. There may be an enemy in here if you haven’t killed it yet.
  2. The second font will be a Font of Magic and is in the second room down the hall. There will be two mages in this room who will probably try to kill you. The font should look like a pile of books, and you’ll need Spirit Form to use it.
  3. Return to the room where you saved the dreamer here and move towards the quest. There will be a “massive door” that you’ll need to break down with the Golem Form. This is the start of the Maze for this dream. Go straight and take the first right. There will be 2 golems and a priest in the room, in addition to a font. Kill the enemies and then use Font of Willpower.
  4. From the room above, make a right and then a left. Kill the Golem in your path and then continue past the “massive door” that will be on the right. At the end of the hall is a door. Behind the door are 3 Golems. Be fully healed before going through this door!  In the back right corner of the room is a Font of Strength.
  5. After you’re done with the two rooms mentioned above, go back the way you came to the massive door you passed earlier. There are 2 arcane horrors (if you haven’t killed them yet) and a spirit door behind it. Use the Spirit form to enter the door. There will be a single Golem in the room in addition to a font. Stay in this room.
  6. In the same room you killed a Golem and gained a font by using a Spirit door, there is a mouse hole. Use the Mouse Form to enter the hole and be ready to fight 2 more Golems. After killing the 2 Golems, use the font of cunning on the right side of the room from where you entered via Mousehole. Then, break down the “massive door” in the same room.
  7. After you break down the “massive door,” there will be two fonts. One of constitution and the other of dexterity. Use these fonts and then head back through the mousehole and spirit door. These are the final fonts for this dream.

  • Niall or the Raw Fade: There are 2 fonts here.
  1. Go through the portal that is to Niall’s RIGHT. There may be one Rage Abomination here, just kill it and then move on to the next portal. After going through the second portal, go down the long “corridor”  until there is a spirit door on the right side, it shouldn’t be too far from the beginning. You’ll need to use Spirit Form to go through; it will not be the spirit door in front of Niall, behind you if you’re talking to him. You’ll know you’re in the correct area by here being a ship in the middle of the room. The little balls of energy will try to kill you. This will tell you that you are in the right spot. This is the only area like this in the Fade.
  2. If you think you went through the door in front of Niall, there will be 3 demons; one of these demons will be Yuvana, who is the purple demon and is partially naked. After slaying her, grab the only font here. It will be a font of willpower and will be to the right side of this room, and you’ll need to use the Spirit Form. This door will open the portal to the final boss and only unlocks after helping your party members
  • The Templar’s Nightmare: There are 2 fonts here.
  1. The first font will be through the door away from the Fade portal next to the Fade pedestal in the room you start in. Go through the door and enter the first room on the left, there will be 3 abominations in here. Kill them and then use the Mouse Form to use the mousehole at the end of the room. There will be a blightwolf as soon as you exit the mousehole. Kill it and then get the font of Dexterity.
  2. At the end of the dream, where you fight this dream’s demon Vereveel, there will be a font on the left side of the room from where you entered. It will be a font of cunning.

CONGRATULATIONS! You have now collected all the fonts.

Finals Week: The Pre-Winter Break Blizzard

For me, finals week has arrived like a freaking blizzard that you know is coming but you forgot to go and buy supplies for. I’ve been having to work on project after project but the thing is, the end of the semester is close at hand… then break will arrive!

I thought I’d share 5 of my tips for how I survive the Finals Blizzard. May the knowledge you hold and your memory help you through this finals season. Good luck and I hope my tips help you out! Read the rest of this entry

Lysistrata by Aristophanes and Greek Life

I wrote a small creative paper responding to Lysistrata without turning it into a book report. While it’s probably not the best piece in the world, maybe it can help inspire some of your own writing.

This is the book I used and I read all the plays in it. The Acharnians is my favorite and reminds me of Monty Python.

The Story:

Following the stream of energized Mycenaeans out of the theatron where Lysistrata by Aristophanes had finished its first performance, I walked with my husband, Thanos, to my father’s home for the meeting that had been arranged only a few days earlier. The agora of Mycenae was crowed as merchants hawked their wares and criers shouted the daily news. The acropolis rose above the busy scene, with men bartering for the best price and women staying near their men, occasionally gossiping with other women near them about the daily chores and their neighbors.

Lysistrata performing in the theatron today! Aristophanes present for today only!” A crier shouted at the base of the path that led up to the acropolis. Another enthusiastically shouted closer to the center of the agora that Aristophanes had been waiting to release the play in 413, only 2 years earlier and when a peace treaty between Laconia and Attica was far from the horizon. Thankfully, Caerus, the god of luck, had been on my side as Thanos escaped military service and assisting in Attica’s war effort, using a favor to end his military career by 4 years in order to marry and help Mycenae prosper as a merchant (greek-gods-and-goddesses.com). Thanos ignored the criers, occasionally stopping to talk politics with a fellow merchant before we continued down the path to my small family home just outside of the agora. When we reached the modest home, my father, Dorian, stepped into the doorway and my younger brother ran out to greet me.

“Irene!” Alexander shouted as he ran toward me, his sandals crunching on the ground “Guess what happened to me today.” He stopped in front of me as Thanos continued to the door now that my brother, in his 10th year, was with me. Smiling, I walked the small distance to my child-hood home with Alexander at my side.

“You finished your lesson in school and you were praised by your teacher?”

“Yep! Though father is upset because I didn’t get all perfect marks on the speech I did last night.” Alexander grumbled under his breath. I chuckled quietly at his disgruntlement and moved to the back room where my mother, Nani, waved me over while she worked on the base of a raw piece of pottery. She didn’t look up from her work as I took a seat beside her on the stool where she’d taught me as she worked on how to be the best Mycenaean I could be.

“Hello mother, Thanos took me to see Lysistrata this morning.”  I spoke as I remsoved some stray scraps of clay from the table she was using. Without looking up, she gave me a sharp signal to be quiet. I waited for her to invite more conversation, using the time to organize my thoughts on the play. Nani blew a short puff of air near the bottom to clear away any remaining pieces of clay, then she turned on her stool and brushed away the clay dust on her shift.

“How was the play, Irene? Have you and Thanos started a family yet? I can’t wait forever to see the future of Mycenae you know.” Nani spoke softly, her lips turning up in a maternal smile.

I cleared my throat delicately, “My husband and I have yet to conceive the future of Mycenae, mother. As for the play, we were in Athens and the women were going to stop the men from going to war, in Laconia and Attica, by no longer having sex with them.”

Nani’s eyes widened some in mock disbelief, “Not having sex? Why, that’s tragic!” She barely kept the laughter at bay.

“It’s true! I think it suited Athens perfectly because of the overall silliness of the play.” I paused to let my mother catch her breath as mirth rocked her 35 year-old frame. Once she had regained her composure, I continued. “And it was not just the women of Athens, Lysistrata brought women from every polis into this pact. Mycenae, Sparta, and Thebes were all brought into this pact to be celibate (Aristophanes, pg. 142).” I paused when one of the servants came in, dropping off some unwanted supplies before returning outside. I brushed aside an irritant strand of hair. “While I enjoyed the play greatly, mother, Aristophanes exaggerated some of our… weakest points. For example, a man in the play calls women ‘sub-human creatures’ (Aristophanes, pg. 159).” I crinkled my nose in disgust.

Nani nodded in that all-knowing fashion that only mothers could. “I think that was his point, Irene, to make us want change. Of course, without us women, there wouldn’t be any men or sons for the foolish wars that Laconia and Attica seem intent on fighting.” Nani’s voice was dry as she moved the prepped vase off of the table and began to knead another ball of clay. “Your brother would probably welcome the chance to speak with you about the play, just don’t tell your father. You know how he has been in his old age and sticking to the traditions. Alexander has been going on about how he has been learning about the ‘fine arts’ due to Lysistrata’s release. I can hardly get him to be quiet for dinner with Dorian, always chattering about Sappho of Lesbos and Pindar of Thebes from times gone by.”

My lips curved up in a small smile. “He has always enjoyed the lyrical poetry of the past, mother.” I quietly slipped out of the kitchen and past the men in the main area to the front yard where Alexander could be seen drawing in the dirt with a slender stick. I stood behind him so as not to interrupt his work. As he finally looked up, he nearly jumped away in surprise but stopped himself for he was only a couple years away from being a man fully grown.

“By Zeus Irene! You should not sneak up on people.” Alexander scowled for a minute before brushing his sandal across the dirt scribbling he’d done. “Did mother send you out her because you were pestering her?”

Shaking my head, I kept a straight face for my brother, “Mother sent me to be your audience. She stated that you’d enjoy hearing about the ‘impossible fantasy’ that is Lysistrata (Aristophanes, pg. 135).”

Alexander’s irritation vanished in a blink of an eye. “Really? Well it is an impossible play. Can you ever imagine that happening, Irene? The summary of the play is that women stop the war between Sparta and Athens. That could never happen in reality. And how could women just stop and…” He continued and I just sat quietly in front of him. Listening to what he thought about the play, seeing hints of Dorian in his speech. By the time he finished his analysis of the Lysistrata, when he had yet to see the play and was basing his argument on the criers of the agora, Thanos was stepping outside to join us in the front yard.

“Irene, it is time to return home. Dorian is taking Alexander to see Lysistrata to teach him how to truly learn from a play.” Thanos said this as he walked toward me, gently ushering me in the direction of our home, even as my mind whirled with the conflicting stances of Nani and my brother. Nani, agreeing with me that the basis of the play was amusing and silly; while Alexander thought it was “ridiculous and unfounded.” Chuckling quietly to myself I thought of a line in the play that had struck a chord in me. “I didn’t realize we were such a total lot of nymphos” (Aristophanes, pg. 146) had rung in my soul. Are we truly so weak that all we women are capable of is listening to our older husbands and letting them make the decisions? I thought, as I prepared dinner. Shrugging, I hummed softly to myself. If we truly are so weak, then why must they rely on us for the sons of war? Perhaps there is more power in women of Mycenae than the men know and Aristophanes emphasized this in Lysistrata by having other poli? Shaking my head, as if shaking the thoughts free, I ignored them. No, we remain in the shadows. Quiet as the shades that prowl the Underworld, and peace will come when death stops his meals.

Notes:
According to babynames.com, Thanos means Death, Irene means Peace, Nani means Grace, and Alexander means Defender of the People in Greek.

Hello everyone!

I have started an e-Bay store that, I hope, takes off. Feel free to take a peek and share the link with your friends. If you’ve been looking for an item, let me know. I may have one to sell but haven’t put it up yet because I want to see how this selling thing goes.

Shakespeare’s Sonnet 62

Sin of self-love possesseth all mine eye
And all my soul and all my every part;
And for this sin there is no remedy,
It is so grounded inward in my heart.
Methinks no face so gracious is as mine,
No shape so true, no truth of such account;
And for myself mine own worth do define,
As I all other in all worths surmount.
But when my glass shows me myself indeed,
Beated and chopp’d with tann’d antiquity,
Mine own self-love quite contrary I read;
Self so self-loving were iniquity.
‘Tis thee, myself, that for myself I praise,
Painting my age with beauty of thy days.

The Circle of Magi Quest: The Fade’s Fonts Walkthrough

Tattoos and Questions

What type of tattoo would you get and why would you get it? Would it have a special meaning or would it just be something that you really enjoy and want to remember forever?

Those are the questions that people who are looking into tattoos usually ask because it is difficult to remove, a painful process to get it, and it is pretty much a permanent addition to your body.

A Single Flame Quote

“All the darkness in the world cannot extinguish the light of a single candle.” ~ St. Francis Of Assisi

This is a quote I found that I thought would go well with the post “A Single Flame.”  I believe that is true, and nothing can extinguish the creativity the mind can create.

Writers’ Block!

NOW:

My writers’ block for The Country of Staron went away and I was able to type up the prologue. Go here to read it.

~Naiad Rose

EARLIER:

So I’m writing two stories, one is called Once Upon a Day and the other is called The Country of Staron. I have writers block for both, which really sucks since the sample for The Country of Staron is due tomorrow at noon. I’m having trouble with Kale, I don’t know what he does next!

Here is a little sample from Once Upon a Day

Kale Stavrous had just gotten off the phone with Nico Perrin. Nico had called requesting that he watch over a friend for a few days who was in mortal danger. Kale had been about to tell Nico no, but Nico had said that she had no where else to go for protection. Kale couldn’t let the woman that Nico wanted protected unguarded, especially since he had called sounding scared and worried for the mystery woman that had Nico playing fetch. Along with his ingrained need to protect, Kale had been unable to say no and to turn them away.

That and if she got hurt or killed Kale would have gone on the biggest guilt trip of his very long life because there’d been a chance that he could protect her, but he had been “busy”. Yeah, right bored out of your mind counts as busy, Kale thought and then he would have been trying to make it up to Nico, who may or may not have forgiven him. Though Kale knew he would never be able to make it up to Nico should the woman die, the death of a person could never be atoned for. Kale had learned that much from his father, before he’d killed him.

Kale had asked Nico the situation and as he explained it Kale had felt sick to his stomach, not an easy thing when you no longer had to worry about eating. Nico had told him that the woman, Aysel Erimentha, was in danger of being killed and he thought the killer wanted her power. Nico had explained that she had come from a family of a Switches, but had only gotten the powers of a less than extraordinary witch. According to Nico, and other various contacts of Kale’s,  Aysel was stronger then a “normal” witch because of her heritage. Following that statement was a fevered request not to tell Aysel how they’d met.

“That would just make her worry about me, and be terrified of you.” Kale had no doubt in his mind that Aysel would run screaming in the other direction if she found out about how he and the werewolf had been forced to ally or die. A quick glance at the standing grandfather clock told Kale that the two would be arriving soon. “I better prepare a room for her. Hopefully we’ll be here long enough for her to use it.”

Aysel woke with a jolt as Nico hit a bump in the road. Looking out the window once more, Aysel found that they were on a deserted dirt road surrounded by a heavily wooded forest.

“Where are we?” Aysel asked, turing in her seat to look at Nico.

“We’re almost to Kale’s place. It’s just a little farther.”

“Kale? Is that the name of your vampire friend?” Aysel said as she covered a yawn. “Why didn’t you tell me that earlier?”

Nico looked at her out of the corner of his eye. “If you hadn’t noticed Aysel, you were a bit hysterical.”

“Sorry.” Now that she was well rested Aysel did feel like crying over Acelynn’s death,  but she still wasn’t as upset as she should have been. Getting some sleep had helped clear her head as to what was happening, too. A killer is after me, Aysel thought, I’m going to have to accept that and to just avoid him until he’s no longer a threat. Which will be easier said than done, if the movies are anything to go by. Turning to look out the window again, Aysel saw that they were pulling up into what could be classified as a fortress.

The gates were electrified, if the crackling against her magical senses was anything to go by, and there were probably other traps laying about that couldn’t be seen. Vampires, Aysel knew, were very protective of their residences. As the car rolled to a stop, Aysel opened her door and got out, to find herself at a mansion that should have been on the cover of a mansions magazine.

Nico quickly grabbed her by the arm, ushering her to the oak door with stained glass windows. I’m going to need a stiff drink after all this, Aysel thought gloomily as she reached for the chain that looked like it was the door bell, and pulled it down. A chiming rang through the house; before the last of the sound faded away, the door began to open on well-oiled hinges. When the door fully opened,  Aysel found herself staring at a muscled chest covered in a black t-shirt with the logo for the movie Vampires Suck on it.

Aysel quickly looked up when a Australian accented voice asked, “So you’re Aysel. The one I’m supposed to baby sit?”

Here is the little bit I have for The Country of Staron:

In the country of Staron, the capital, Leria, surrounded by a pine forest and rivers that separates the land from the rest of the world, leads a utopian society by the name of Aris-Nexis . Taking the Old-World society into an age of peace and equality that originates from the closely held ideals of relaxation, hard-work, and the want of a deeper understanding on any and all topics.

Any ideas as to how to continue either would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you! ~ Naiad Rose

A Single Flame

A Single Flame

When a candle is lit, with no other light source, I feel as if
magic is a reality for the whole world. Not just creatures
like you and I. Anything can happen when a candle is lit. Love, arguments, sorrow, forgotten memories recalled, and dreams, stories, imagination are free again. The love story of a life time can start with a candle; after all, love is a spark that ignites a flame, and when that flame is blown out, the magic of that love is gone. So peace and calm are brought but the memories you have forgotten are shown in a flame and in the shadows it shows you that you never knew were there, and the magic becomes a stronger force. Time is rewound and you are able to forgive your past mistakes and see everything in the dim comforting light of the candle.
